A branch of a local credit union is installed in the high school.1
Students work in the credit union as part of a business class.
A teacher eats their small sack lunch in the courtyard.
The school does not supply its teachers with school supplies.
The students’ first assignment is to dream up an advertising campaign for $1000 loans2 offered to the school’s teachers to pay for their own classroom supplies.
The campaign takes the form of lurid and expensive posters distributed everywhere.
The teacher takes the children up on their offer.
The teacher buys some paper and pencils with the loan money.
When their students are sad, the teacher sends them to visit a counselor.
The tissues that the high school provides for its counselors are so cheap that they disintegrate when children cry into them.
There are little white stars on the children’s faces when they finish crying.
